Ocean Crest Resort Wins Wine Spectator "Award of Excellence" for Outstanding Wine Cellar

August 3, 2004 -- Wine Spectator, the leading oenology publication in the United States, notified the Moclips, Washington resort of its selection because of the onsite restaurant's outstanding selection of wines, almost exclusively from the Pacific Northwest. The bimonthly wine magazine is consulted primarily by serious oenophiles for its wine reviews, recommendations and profiles in each issue.

Since 1981, the Wine Spectator has honored restaurants around the world that show passion and professionalism about wine and choose to give fine wines a leading role, adding immeasurably to the dining experience. The August 31 issue each year is devoted almost entirely to showcasing the winners of the Restaurant Awards Program. This year's issue will list the Ocean Crest Restaurant, which is considered by many as one of the finest on the North Pacific Coast.
Established on a tradition of excellence in the 1960s, and maintained by three generations of the Curtright family, the Ocean Crest Resort has long offered outstanding cuisine and wines. Overlooking the Moclips beach, the Pacific Ocean, and framed by stately spruce trees, the Ocean Crest Resort restaurant provides a unique, sweeping seascape that is possibly the best ocean view anywhere.

"As is fitting our location, our wine collection draws primarily from boutique wineries in the Pacific Northwest," said Miles Batchelder, wine steward. "Diners will not find classic French and Italian wines or the wines of Australia or New Zealand. The purpose of our wine program is to complement and enhance our native Northwest-flavored menu. We seek exceptional wines from smaller producers throughout Washington, Oregon, California and British Columbia. Among the represented wineries are: Leonetti, Quilceda Creek, Cayuse, McCrea, Ken Wright, Beaux Freres, Kistler, and Peter Michael.

"Our menu is predominantly Northwest-themed, and our chef, Cedar Martin, purchases as much locally as possible. We find a near perfect link between fresh Northwest ingredients and Northwest wines. This approach makes the most exciting and satisfying food and wine pairings for our discerning guests," Batchelder added.

Along with a truly exceptional breakfast, lunch or dinner, diners at the Ocean Crest Resort can find rare and highly sought wines of the Northwest. "Our customers can enjoy the food, wine and location along with a stunning sunset. What more could one ask for?" added Batchelder.
